Reducing methane emissions from cows, cattle and sheep is one of the biggest challenges to face the agricultural sector in the last decade. The SEASOLUTIONS PROJECT project is committed to making a positive impact on methane emissions in agriculture by positively effecting the rumen and rumen microbiota using seaweeds and seaweed-derived ingredients to reduce methane emissions and improve ruminant health.

In addition, the project is focused on reducing environmental impacts by sustainably harvesting seaweeds present in abundance in European and partner countries coastal environments and through use of seaweeds grown using aquaculture where possible. The aim of the SEASOLUTIONS PROJECT project is to reduce methane emissions specifically and improve animal health and performance without adversely effecting food quality or safety and the environment.

The SEASOLUTIONS PROJECT project is committed to making a positive impact on methane emissions in agriculture by positively effecting the rumen and rumen microbiota using seaweeds and seaweed-derived ingredients to reduce methane emissions and improve ruminant health.

This aim will be achieved further using sustainable processing and through development of feeds suitable for use in pasture-raised animals. Life Cycle Analysis will be carried out at every stage of the project from harvesting and processing to feed formulation and feeding trials. The project also raises industry and consumer awareness through a number of dissemination and outreach events throughout the lifetime of the project.
